DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Capital Repertory Theatre seeks a dynamic and energetic Director of Development to manage its fundraising operation and help raise $1 million annually in private contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals. The Director of Development works under the supervision of the Managing Director and supports the fundraising efforts of the Managing Director, the Artistic Director and the Board of Directors.
Capital Repertory Theatre is the Capital Region’s premier professional theatre. Soon to be celebrating its 30th year, Capital Rep is a well respected and important fixture in the region’s economy and cultural life. Over the next year, the theatre’s goal is to create a vibrant development operation that will thrive and grow in the coming years.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the development planning and evaluation process
- Supervises the Grant Writer and Annual Fund Manager
- Manages all aspects of the Annual Fund Campaign
- Oversees the writing and production of donor solicitation and cultivation packages, brochures, proposals, reports, newsletters, and other correspondence
- Oversees the management of the database, donor records and correspondence
- Manages the donor acknowledgement process
- Creates and oversees systems for a smooth and efficiently run department
- Analyzes donor activity and generates fund raising progress reports
- Coordinates donor and prospect cultivation activities
- Researches and identifies new major donor prospects and upgrades including individuals, corporations and foundations
- Targets major donors for personal contact with Managing Director and/or Board members and/or Artistic Director
- Arranges donor meetings and trips
- Cultivates and solicits donors as appropriate
- Organizes fund raising events
- Supports board fund raising activities along with the Managing Director
- Manages bequests and planned giving efforts
- Attends fund raising training workshops and programs
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, five to seven years of fundraising experience and a proven record of advancement. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following:
- Ability to succeed in a fast paced environment, plan and prioritize effectively, manage multiple projects, and meet competing demands and deadlines
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to gain the confidence of a variety of constituents
- Knowledge of and experience in fundraising database and/or moves management systems
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
- Supervisory skills and experience and ability to work with and lead a team
