January 20 - February 6, 2009 The Oxford Roof Climbers Rebellion by Stephen Massicotte, Directed by Roger T. Danforth (Regional Premiere!)

A fictionalized story of the friendship of poet Robert Graves and T.E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia, that began at Oxford University after WWI.  Having survived the war and suffering “shell shock” the two resolve to return to the frivolous days of undergraduate rebellion, enacting pranks in an attempt to shatter the notion that war is noble and its victims are heroes.  As their ideas gain momentum, Lawrence’s nemesis, the British Foreign Secretary Lord Curzon, sees seeds of sedition and tries to stop the Rebellion before it has tragic ends.

“…it takes no leap of the imagination to translate their World War I experiences into stories from today’s newspaper.”  The New York Times

February 7-15, 2009 No Child by Nilaja Sun (Regional Premiere!)

Based on Nilaja Sun’s experience as a teaching artist at a high school in the Bronx, No Child is a tour-de-force exploration of the New York public school system.  The students, teachers, parents, administrators, janitors and security guards who inhabit our public schools and shape the future of America are fearlessly brought to life with rapid fire.   An award-winning hit in New York, No Child ... is a virtuosic performance, joyous and heart-wrenching. In Sun’s words, “I created this piece to be a snapshot from the trenches, something entertaining and provocative that’ll get people talking about the state of our public schools.”

“Astounding!  Sun brings us not her world but the world.  By showing us how the other half lives she provides an object lesson in what should not be missing from any life curriculum; hope.”  The New Yorker

February 18-22, 2009 The Love-Hungry Farmer An Adaptation of John B. Keane’s Novellas, by Des Keogh (Regional Premiere!)

Set in 1950’s rural Ireland, John Bosco McLane is a 56 year-old bachelor…and virgin.  He is desperate for female companionship but finding someone in his isolated town of Bannabeen makes it difficult.  Of the few chances he’s had for love, all have had hilarious and humiliating endings. Acclaimed actor Des Keogh, who also adapted the play, stars as McLane.  Keogh first performed The Love Hungry Farmer at Irish Repertory Theatre in New York in 2003, where his performance was noted by critics to be outstanding.  The Associated Press said “Keogh is a wonder, a master story teller”.

“fiercely serious and bruisingly hilarious...”  The New York Times
